The Postnatal Course

The postnatal course takes place on Mondays and Fridays but of course with the babies! It’s currently taking place at Prestwood Village Hall and Little Missenden Hall and is back to face to face classes from April 12th as per guidelines, with the same strict COVID secure guidelines in place to keep us all safe! It is aimed at first time mums but we now also have one on friday mornings specifically for people who’ve had their second/third baby!

The Postnatal Course includes postnatal support as required, a baby massage session to learn some techniques with Charyn from Mama Baby Bliss, a session with experienced women’s health physio Chrissie Edley about your postnatal body plus a session with Sammy from Happy Hearts First Aid on baby and toddler first aid. It primarily gives you the time and space to discuss you and your postnatal recovery and the transition you’re going through – everything else is about your baby, but this is about YOU! We reflect on how you’re doing and I cover relaxation techniques to help with early parenting, feeding and bonding!

The Prestwood postnatal course has mums from local villages as well as High Wycombe, Aylesbury, Amersham, Chesham and Wendover and takes place from 10am until 12pm. The postnatal course can also be bought as a gift/baby shower present which is a popular option! Please note as with all my courses – if finances are a barrier, just drop me an email and we can sort something out.

Dates have changed slightly due to the classes having to stop during the last lockdown so please check the below as well as looking out for an email from me if you’ve already booked on to the course!

Some recent reviews of the Postnatal Course:

"We have just finished The Village Midwife Postnatal Course and could not recommend it enough to anyone with a new baby. The four sessions were both enjoyable and informative and it was really nice to have different workshops within the sessions - something other postnatal courses don’t offer. This unique appproach means that the class is not just suitable for first time mums - we enjoyed a postnatal physio, a baby massage taster session and a sling workshop. The classes were held fortnightly which worked really well with our hectic new lifestyle (first time mum over here), the timings were perfect too... we arrived with no pressure to start right away, there was always time to get the babies fed, changed and also to have a cup of tea and some cake (another added bonus). Sophie is lovely and very knowledgable. She has such a way of making everyone feel welcome and at ease. I am so glad we did this course, we have learnt a lot and met some lovely other mums who we will be sure to stay in contact with. Thanks Sophie!"

New mum from Hazlemere

"Six weeks postpartum I started Sophie’s postnatal course which was so lovely. We covered baby massage, slings and carriers, physio and general feelings postpartum. You also have the benefit of joining a wider community of parents through the ‘No Sleep Club’ that Sophie organises. She also arranges regular workshops (sleeping, weaning, first aid etc), which is really useful."

New mum from Wendover

"Not only are both the antenatal and postnatal classes so insightful, you are welcomed into a supportive and loving community. I strongly urge new mums and mums to be to join this fantastic community and go for classes with Sophie!"

New mum from Aylesbury

"I did the postnatal classes with Sophie in Jan and Feb. They were brilliant. Sophie is so welcoming and friendly and the classes were a perfect size (5 mums and babies) to get to know everyone really well. Sophie organised a great selection of external people to feed into the classes - the Sling Session was particularly useful and my daughter loved the Baby Massage! If I had any questions Sophie was so helpful and responsive on both email and Whatsapp. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Sophie to any expecting and/or new mums - she's an amazing find!"

New mum from High Wycombe

"I attended a postnatal course with The Village Midwife. Sophie is wonderful. She brings Mums together, puts them at ease and helps them find their way through the early days with their new babies by providing a really well thought out course, with a mix of practical and enjoyable content (Harry adored the Baby Massage session!) and a really lovely, comfortable venue. Oh, and plenty of hot drinks and biscuits. What Sophie does is really special and I'm so glad I signed up to do her course... I'd recommend her to anyone."

New mum from Princes Risborough

"The postnatal group is great, it's a great place to meet other mums and discuss new motherhood with other women who are going through it at the same time as you. I also like that there is a focus each week and you get to learn something new like baby wearing and baby massage."
