What does the 1:1 antenatal course cover?

We cover everything from The Village Midwife antenatal course but in a 1:1 setting so that I can tailor it to you and your needs, whether you’re on your own or doing the course with your partner! This involves birth prep for a variety of different birth experiences, birth preferences for different scenarios and how to confidently express these (useful for partners!) We also cover active birth and the biomechanics of the pelvis, caesarean preferences, and how to care for yourself during the postnatal period. We cover baby care including safe sleep, feeding baby (and all of your options/potential challenges) and how to dress/bathe/care for baby!

The 1:1 course is fully personalised however which means that if there’s an aspect of antenatal prep that you’d like to cover more in depth or an aspect you’d prefer to leave out then I can work the course around you! I also work around your schedule as I teach during the day or during the evening and can either come to your home or you can come to me in Wendover at HQ (HP22 6PE)

We can either cover it in 6 hours or 9 hours, dependent on what you want/ to cover. Usually we discuss what you want to cover beforehand by email and then I can recommend timings and the length of the course.

What if there are just a few topics we didn’t cover in another antenatal/hypnobirthing course I’ve done that I’d like to go over with you?

If you want to have any extra antenatal support - you can also have a birth chat with me. You still get my ongoing support with any questions that crop up later, as with any course with me! Likewise this option is good if you have to miss a group antenatal session and want to catch up.

What can we cover in a birth chat with you?

With a birth chat, we can cover anything you need to. Whether this is antenatal prep, discussion of birth options, going over postnatal planning or feeding, c section prep - whatever you need. After the session I’ll send over links about anything we discussed and follow up information and support. We can also have the session at your home or at HQ in Wendover and either with your birth partner or on your own, it is your choice.

What can we cover in a birth debrief and when can I do these?

In a birth debrief, we can discuss your birth experience in a way that is led by you. It can allow us to go through what happened, why and how things evolved how they did and what this may mean for future pregnancies and births. If you have requested your hospital notes beforehand we can use those but otherwise we can discuss it without them too - whatever you would prefer. We can have a birth debrief at any stage, whether it’s a few weeks post birth or a few years. We can also have the session at your home or at HQ in Wendover and either with your birth partner or on your own, it is your choice.

I don’t live in Bucks, can I still do a 1:1 course with you?

Absolutely! Any 1:1 course with me can be in person at your home (if you are within half an hour of Wendover, Bucks) or over Zoom (if you’re based outside of Bucks) – I am flexible. If it is over Zoom, I post your Village Midwife bag and antenatal handout to you beforehand!

Send me an email at sophie@thevillagemidwife.co.uk if you have any questions or check my upcoming availability here!

You also get priority booking for postnatal courses (like my group antenatal course clients) which are great for meeting local mum friends at the same stage as you.
