About Me

I am a registered midwife living and working in Buckinghamshire. I am also trained as a KG Hypnobirthing teacher and I'm a current breastfeeding mother. I'm passionate about providing accessible antenatal education and postnatal support to families in Buckinghamshire based on my knowledge and experience as a midwife and mum, and I am very proud to see our relaxed and friendly Village Midwife community growing and growing!

Friendly. Inclusive. Relaxed. Local.

Our approach to antenatal and postnatal courses

Our courses are set in a beautiful studio in Prestwood near Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, and taught by a current practising midwife who is very passionate about what she does! We have pregnant and postnatal clients from Prestwood, Great Missenden, Hazlemere, High Wycombe, Hughenden, Amersham, Chesham, Beaconsfield, Marlow, Berkhamsted and so on!

Why are we different?

Our antenatal course is written and designed by a midwife, and constantly reviewed to add the latest evidence and statistics which means people benefit from up to date support and knowledge throughout their pregnancy

As well as an inclusive and evidence based antenatal course, we provide continuity  of support for women through the pregnancy and afterwards by text or phone, from individualised birth plans to questions by text at 11pm!

We aim to prepare you for labour and birth as well as life as parents which includes preparation for whatever type of feeding you choose and how to prepare for that postnatal period with your new baby

We are proud to have created a supportive atmosphere which is inclusive of the many ways that people come to parenthood and helps you to build fab support networks from before day 1! This also includes flexible payment plans and a single parent discount

Some Recent Reviews of the Antenatal Course:

"We can’t thank Sophie enough for all of the information and support she has given us from attending her classes and post birth. Sophie gave me the confidence to have the home birth that I had originally really wanted, but had been put off by due to other people saying it would be too risky for my first birth. Sophie helped me to feel positive and informed about birth whereas before it was something I felt very anxious about due to horror stories I’d heard or what I had seen in the media. The classes helped me to be open minded and positive about whatever journey our birth took and not disappointed if something didn’t go to plan.

My partner also gained so much from attending the classes and as a result made a really fantastic birth partner thanks to Sophie’s advice.

The location is lovely and there is always yummy treats for the break. Sophie was so approachable and made everyone feel comfortable to be able to ask lots of questions. You will receive a pack of information with everything that is covered in the course and loads of useful handouts, my midwife was amazed by our visual birth plan that Sophie helped us to produce and took a copy to show her colleagues.

I’m really looking forward to the postnatal sessions and attending the no sleep club soon. Thank you Sophie for everything you’ve done for us, you are amazing at what you do and I can’t wait for you to meet Poppy soon x" (New mum from Aylesbury)

"We are so pleased we picked this midwife-led antenatal course! From the moment we signed up to the course we had amazing communication from Sophie.

During the course we felt well informed about all of our birth choices, we gained invaluable knowledge on pregnancy, birth and postnatal care, as well as caring & feeding baby and looking after each other. We also heard from a women’s health physio and a new mum who kindly shared her complicated but successful breastfeeding journey with us.

We received great email & whatsapp communication in-between sessions that provided us with a selection of essential resources to draw upon when we need them.

Above all Sophie made the course accessible and friendly, she is approachable, extremely knowledgeable and very caring and empowering. We have made great friends within the group and are looking forward for the postnatal groups to start!" (New parents from Berkhamsted)

"I highly recommend this antenatal class! Sophie is absolutely lovely, so approachable and knowledgeable. The course is delivered in a relaxed way and we felt that the information provided was very balanced so you have all the information you need to make informed choices that are right for you. We almost didn't invest in private antenatal classes but we are so glad we did. I had a really positive birthing experience and I feel that much of that was because I felt totally prepared for all eventualities. The postnatal group is great too, it's a great place to meet other mums and discuss new motherhood with other women who are going through it at the same time as you. I also like that there is a focus each week and you get to learn something new like baby wearing and baby massage. Thank you Sophie!" (New parents from High Wycombe)

"We have just completed the antenatal course with Sophie and can safely say that our expectations have well and truly been exceeded. Sophie has an abundance of knowledge and experience to share and her passion for what she does is a real benefit to those who attend her course plus the venue is beautiful!

Sophie made us feel at ease from the first email sent; she was flexible, understanding, caring and welcoming throughout the course and we now feel that we are as best informed as we possibly can be for the arrival of our baby.

Another benefit is that we have met a great group of people along the way and there are still the postnatal classes to follow plus the no sleep clubs! This course and Sophie really do not stop giving, it has been an invaluable experience to us as first time parents to be and we will be highly recommending The Village Midwife to all our friends. Thank you Sophie" (New mum from Prestwood)

The Antenatal Courses and Postnatal Courses

The antenatal course is a 4 week course on Saturday mornings held at Nanfans Ballet School in Prestwood from 10am until 1pm. It covers what your choices are in pregnancy and labour, which includes everything from antenatal bonding, to the physiology behind birth and everything you could possibly prepare for when it comes to labour. It also includes full preparation for feeding your baby and for the crucial postnatal period.

Included in the course price is a very thorough handout which covers everything we discuss in the course plus more, meaning that you  don't have to jot things down and can just relax and enjoy! It also includes ongoing 1-1 support by a midwife via email or phone until you have your baby and then in those first few days! Included is also all the materials for a birth plan covering all your options including helpful templates. I know pregnancy can be a tricky time financially, so I do a single parent discount plus welcome payment by installments, as long as it is paid by the first date of the course/first hypnobirthing session. I also subsidise places on the course for those who need it, just drop me an email.

The postnatal course takes place at Nanfans Ballet School on Wednesday mornings, but of course with the babies! It is every other week, over an 8 week period. The Course includes feeding support, a baby massage session with Charlotte from Kin Life, a slings and carriers workshop with Tessa and a session with our women's health physio Chrissie Edley. We also discuss YOU and your postnatal recovery!

Both have plenty of tea, cake and biscuits, as all good things should.
