Hi, my name is Mel and I am based on the East Norfolk Coast near Great Yarmouth. Following my Nurse training I qualified as a Midwife in 2010 and have worked in all areas of the Maternity Department, including Antenatal and Postnatal Services, Delivery Suite, Community and during the Covid Pandemic I was part of the multi-professional team who cared for women having an Elective Caesarean Section. One of my biggest passions within Midwifery is to support women and their families to experience a positive birth regardless of how they labour, birth or feed their baby.

I work as a Midwifery Clinical Educator at the local University where I teach the Student Midwives and support them when they go into placement within the Hospital and Community settings. It is a real privilege to educate and encourage the new generation of Midwives.

Outside of work, I am a Mum to a fantastic Daughter (9) and a daft Patterdale Terrier (2). My Daughter is an avid dancer, and this inspired me to learn Ballet. I also enjoy challenging myself to try different forms of exercise as well as attending the Theatre specially to see Musicals. I am very lucky to have an amazing family and was present for the birth of both my Nephew and Niece, all of whose journeys into this world were very different and have given me perspective of what it is like being the Birthing Support rather than the Midwife or Birthing person.

I am absolutely thrilled to bring The Village Midwife course to my local area of Great Yarmouth and surrounding villages. I look forward to educating, informing, and inspiring women, birthing people, and their families as they embark on the amazing journey of parenthood, so they can make fully informed decisions around their pregnancy, birth and early parenthood experience.
